Individual psychotherapy for adults

How can psychotherapy help you?

People who come to psychotherapy often talk about specific challenges: something that causes suffering, blocks their development, or simply gives them no peace.

Individual psychotherapy is a process in which a psychotherapist supports change. This can address behaviors, patterns, habits, or emotions related to the difficulties the patient is struggling with.

How can I tell if now is a good time for therapy? There’s no single right time. Therapy can be helpful when something in your life isn’t working the way you’d like and you want to understand or change it.

Psychotherapy will support you, when:

  • you experience severe anxiety, low mood, and a sense of emptiness,
  • you struggle with low self-esteem,
  • you want to understand why you react in a certain way and what is behind it,
  • you are accompanied by a recurring feeling of helplessness,
  • it is difficult for you to express anger, sadness, joy,
  • you experience recurring difficulties,
  • you want to work through difficult experiences.

What does psychotherapy look like?

Psychotherapy is a process, not a series of sessions. Changes happen gradually, but they happen in a way that is lasting.

Consultations

Before the regular process begins, one to three consultations are held. These consultations allow the psychotherapist to get to know you, conduct an initial interview, and ensure they are the right person to provide therapy in your situation. You also have the opportunity to explore whether this relationship makes sense for you.

Therapeutic contract

If both parties express a willingness and readiness to collaborate, a contract is concluded. This contract specifies, among other things, the goals of the therapy, its format, the frequency of meetings, the method of payment, and the rules for canceling meetings and terminating the process.

Regular therapeutic process

Therapy takes place on a set schedule, typically once a week. During the process, the therapist and patient examine how various life experiences have influenced the current state and work toward change that will alleviate suffering.

How long does therapy last?
An individual therapy session lasts 50 minutes. The duration of the entire therapy process varies depending on the established therapeutic goal: from several to several dozen sessions.

How often are meetings held?
Typically, individual sessions are held weekly, at a fixed time on a given day of the week.

Frequently asked questions

Psychotherapy is a process in which the therapist—using their knowledge and tools acquired during years of training—supports the patient in their transition. This change may involve behaviors, thought patterns, habits, or emotions that are related to difficulties in everyday life. Unlike a conversation with a loved one, the therapist observes what you say from a certain distance, creating a different quality of connection.

There’s no single right time. Therapy can be helpful when something in your life isn’t working the way you’d like and you want to understand or change it. You don’t have to be „sufficiently in crisis” to benefit from this form of support.

Before the actual therapeutic process begins, several consultations are held. These sessions allow us to get to know each other better, identify what you’re coming to with, and together we discuss what we’ll be working on and whether the methods the therapist uses will be helpful for you. The therapist conducts an initial interview and assesses whether they’re the right person to work with your situation. The consultation process typically lasts one to three sessions.

If both parties are willing and ready to collaborate, they conclude a therapeutic contract. This contract specifies the goals, working method, frequency of meetings, payment method, and rules for canceling appointments and terminating the process.

It depends on what you come with and what you’re looking for. Some processes are shorter and focus on a specific issue. Others are longer and explore deeper patterns. Initially, we establish a general direction together; this is then verified throughout the therapeutic process.

The therapeutic relationship is crucial – you have the right to feel like there’s „no chemistry” with someone. That’s why we start with a consultation. If it turns out the therapist isn’t the right person for your work, they’ll help you find someone better suited.
